Fine & Fashionable
by Joanna Hashagen & Santina Levey
Published to accompany an exhibition, at Bowes Museum in 2006, of over 200 pieces of lace from one of the world’s largest collections of lace, put together in the 19th century by Anthony and Arthur Blackborne, London lace dealers who sold to the 'fine and fashionable' around the world. The Collection had been generously given to the Museum by descendants of the Blackborne Family and had arrived at the museum in several trunks filled with unsorted lace - some 7,000 pieces, including a man's needle lace collar for a cloak. which may have been owned by King Charles I.
After a section which describes the story of Blackbornes in its hey-day, there follows an extensive section which describes many of the beautiful pieces of lace, fully illustrated with photographs, many of which are in full colour. A must-have for anyone who loves lace.
In excellent condition. Very minor bumps to cover corners.
