In 1974, he was appointed honorary curator of the Allhallows Museum in Honiton and his research led to the award of PhD by Exeter University.
This very thorough book is in two parts : Part 1 examines the course of the industry from its beginnings in the 16th Century, its many thriving years that followed and its later years of decline. Part 2 looks at the people that were involved - lace makers, designers, suppliers, distributors and retailers. The text is supported by over 100 photographs.
