The Lavendon Collection of Bobbin Lace Patterns
by Valerie Harris
In this popular and well presented book begins, by using family lace hierlooms, photographs and stories, the author tells us something about the lives of some of those from her family who made lace in the village of Lavendon, Buckinghamshire over a period of abouit 150 years. However, the majority of the book presents a collection of about 60 patterns used and handed-down through four generation of these lacemakers. These include four Bucks Point patterns from the author's great-grandmother, 31 rare Bedford/Maltese patterns from her grandmother, 17 assorted patterns from aunts and others and five of the author's own designs.
The majority of patterns include a pricking and a black and white photograph and there are often interesting notes which connect the individual pattern to the life of the individuals that used it in the past.
